Products are hand sourced and refired for their individual characteristics, This plate is one of a kind and truely a unique piece of art.
Stories in clay have been communicated since 1900 BC. Around the 16th century Dutch artisans began to depict natural landscapes, historical and biblical iconography onto the famous Delft Blauw.
It was said that the English were inspired by the Dutch artisans. However English scenes were naive and provincal with an eccentric and often relaxed atmosphere rather than urban and sophisticated.
Drawing on Kay van Bellen’s English and Dutch heritage ‘ILLUSTRATED STORIES’ clashes these traditions together, creating eccentric yet sophisticated contemporary ceramics.
New and old ceramics are carefully sourced for their individual characteristics that reflect the story told upon them. They are then screen printed and fired in a kiln at 860 degrees.
Stork MEDIUM 18.5cm
Subtle texturing often appears when old ceramics are re-fired in the kiln. Rather than an imperfection we view this as a uncovering of a former use.
Although the ceramics are dishwasher and microwave proof, our advice is to avoid if possible and wash with a damp cloth. They are not oven proof.
Please treat them wih the love and care as we hope this artwork continues its life for many years to come.
All packaging is souched from sustainable materials and each plate comes with information on how to care for your product.
